What is on these pages

Permit numbers, permit and work classification, scope descriptions, addresses, application and issue dates, status, declared job value where the city publishes it, and the contractor company on record.

Where it comes from

Each city’s official open-data portal — currently Chicago, Austin and Seattle.

How often it refreshes

Collected daily. This copy currently holds 9,000 records, last collected on 2026-09-06.

How accurate it is

Cities publish different fields, so some columns are empty for some cities — Austin, for example, does not publish a general declared value. Each city’s own record is authoritative and we link it where the city provides a permalink. We never collect an individual’s phone number or home address. We take the contractor from each city’s own contractor field; Chicago publishes a single contact name rather than a separate company field, so on a Chicago permit that name is whatever the city recorded — usually a firm, occasionally an owner-builder. Ask us to remove it and we will.

These pages are an early release with deliberately partial coverage while the collection pipeline is proven out. Everything shown is real data from the source named above — there is no sample or placeholder content — but the record count is a fraction of what the source holds, and some fields are not yet populated for every record.

Corrections and removals

If a record is wrong, correcting it at the official source is what fixes it everywhere; our copy follows on the next collection. If you need a record suppressed here in the meantime, tell us which one and we will act on it within 72 hours. We never alter or delete the underlying source data — suppression happens when the page is served.
